Rabbi Arthur Waskow Presents Daisy Khan with Prophetic Voice Award

The Shalom Center honored Daisy Khan at the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement's 28th
Annual Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., held January 16, 2011, at the Arch Street Presbyterian Church, 1724 Arch Street, Philadelphia.

Ms. Khan, co-founder with her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, of the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Institute, was recognized for her work to advance interfaith cooperation and to engage the American Muslim community in peacemaking and dialogue with other religious and ethical
communities.

Readers of The Shalom Report may remember that The Shalom Center organized a support vigil and rally at Park51 in the midst of the controversy over locating a Muslim community center in Lower Manhattan. In the tradition of a Jewish housewarming ceremony, Ms. Khan received bread, salt, honey, and a candle.

Rabbi Waskow said of Daisy Khan, "We at The Shalom Center are proud to remember Dr. King by honoring this link in the great prophetic lineage."
